London has suffered a net loss of social housing for the first time in three years, new figures show. The government's annual update on housing stock published last week, shows there were 801,180 social housing properties in 2017 - 1,710 fewer than in 2016 when there were 802,890. While the number of council-owned properties has been going down consistently for at least six years, this shortfall has been made up by housing associations leading to an increase of the overall social housing provision since 2014.
